The WECO Program ended in June 2014. This site is acting as an archive of the program's history and resources for as long as NC CALS can house it. For assistance with watershed education and management needs, please visit the new NC Watershed Stewardship Network, (site to become active in 2014) contact your county Soil and Water Conservation District office or NC Cooperative Extension office, or go to the resources tab on this site for other options.  The 3 "current projects" listed on this page are now managed by the Water Resources Research Institute.

Here are a few helpful resources:

WECO's goal was to develop local capacity for collaborative natural resource management in North Carolina.  Between 1997- 2014, WECO facilitated local watershed planning and restoration, provided outreach tools on water resources and collaboration, and helped communities to build partnerships and find solutions for natural resource issues.  As North Carolina continues to grow, WECO has responded to needs for education and facilitation on emerging issues such as low impact development and local sustainability planning.
We can help your community to:
  1) assess community issues around natural resources, laying the groundwork for collaboration
  2) develop a collaborative vision
  3) engage in planning and implementing the vision.

WECO was a NC Cooperative Extension program housed in the NCSU Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics.
