Mourners set up fund
Several 4-H members and volunteers have set up the Kristina Jarrell Memorial 4-H Fund to honor the late Miss Jarrell's leadership in the 4-H Electric Program.

Jarrell, who was 16, died Aug. 5 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill where she was airlifted Aug. 4 after a 6 p.m. accident. She reportedly fell from a moving vehicle on N.C. 22 just south of Ramseur, a Randolph County Sheriff's Office spokesperson told the Asheboro Courier -Tribune.

She was a member of the Happy Heifer Dairy 4-H Club in Randolph County for eight years, participating in local, district and state-level activities. She was on the club's Dairy Quiz Bowl team and worked with her mother and sister in leading summer workshops.

The daughter of Gail and Larry Allred, she was a rising sophomore at Eastern Randolph High School, where she was captain of the JV cheerleading squad and a scholar athlete.

In July, she participated in her fourth 4-H Electric Congress, held at the UNC-Wilmington, one of 190 4-Hers from 45 counties who won expense-paid trips to the three-day event for their 4-H electric project achievements. At last year's event she won a third-place territorial award given by Progress Energy.

Jarrell recently helped make two quilts for the Victory Junction Gang Camp and participated in the club's Adopt-A-Grandparent activity at Cross Road Retirement Community. She also was a 4-H delegate to a seminar in Raleigh which addressed how to make 4-H more attractive to today's youth.

Tammy Harrison, 4-H program assistant for Randolph County, said Jarrell was also a member of the 4 Corners Sewers, because of her sewing interest, and was helpful to younger 4-H members.

Many 4-H'ers, volunteers, program assistants, associates and agents from the Northwest District who attended teen retreats, 4-H Electric Congress and 4-H Congress will remember Kristina Jarrell as an outstanding member.

To help celebrate her life, send your contribution to Kristina Jarrell Memorial 4-H Fund, c/o Randolph County 4-H, 2222-A S. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, NC 27205.

Also, her family has requested that memorials be made to the Sandy Waugh Bradshaw Scholarship Fund - a fund set up by Bradshaw's Class of 1981 classmates in her honor after she died on Flight 93 on Sept. 11, 2001. The fund is handled through Eastern Randolph High School, 390 Eastern Randolph Road, Ramseur, N.C. 27317.

Diversity Catalyst Team needs you
Cooperative Extension's Diversity Catalyst Team is composed of state-level Extension personnel from N.C. A&T's School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences, N.C. State University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and county Extension centers.

The primary criterion for membership is "commitment toward all aspects of open and participatory diversity and pluralism." The time commitment for Diversity Team members is typically one or two days a month, and travel is sometimes required for these meetings. There are currently six vacancies on the 20-member team. For more information, contact Chiquita McAllister at N.C. A&T State University, mcallist@ncat.edu or Harvey Lineberry, N.C. State University, harvey_lineberry@ncsu.edu.

Keep those pubs updated
Please help us keep Extension's on-line publications catalog-- http://apps.ces.ncsu.edu/pubs/ -- up-to-date and accurate.
* When you post a numbered publication on your department's Web site, send us the address so we can list it in the on-line catalog.
* When your department changes its Web addresses, send us the corrected addresses for your numbered publication. If you change a server and don't give us the new addresses, all of your numbered publications "disappear" from the catalog because none of the links work. Questions? Contact Rhonda Thrower, rhonda_thrower@ncsu.edu.
