Extension Associate, EFNEP
Suzanne van Rijn is responsible for a multi-county unit in the North Central District providing leadership in managing the Expanded Food & Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) for limited resource families with children and with youth. Her duties include curriculum and programmatic training, coaching, observing and developing Nutrition Program Assistants. She is responsible for working with county teams in support of EFNEP and works closely with the district and county extension directors for recruitment, hiring and evaluation of nutrition program assistants. Suzanne is a member of the Department of 4-H Youth Development and Family & Consumer. She is currently working with the following counties: Halifax, Wake, Edgecombe, Johnston, Orange and Caswell.
Suzanne began her career as a 4-H Agent in 1979 in the City of Richmond with the Virginia Cooperative Extension Service. She worked in the city of Newport News as 4-H Agent from 1981 to 1992. She moved to North Carolina and was employed in 1993 as 4-H Agent in Union County. She accepted the 4-H Agent position in Northampton County in 1993, and in 2003, transferred to Halifax County as the Nutrition Program Supervisor.
Suzanne received her M.S. in Agricultural and Extension Education from NCSU in 2000, and her B.S. in Home Economics, Extension Concentration from James Madison University in 1979.
