Susan S. Jakes, Ph.D.

Extension Assistant Professor, Extension Specialist

Dr. Susan Jakes serves as the Extension Specialist for Family and Community Development program development. She works to promote community change, particularly in the areas of diversity, leadership, community mobilization, working with non-profits, volunteerism, community development, community gardening, and poverty.

She is the Editor for the community section of the Children, Youth and Family Research and Education Network CYFERnet See CYFERnet for a wealth of resources for children, youth, family and community programming.

She also has developed measures for assessing community development and community leadership activities. This grouping of scales is called the Community Assets Survey. Efforts are currently underway to test these surveys for reliability and validity.
