Professor, Department Extension Leader, and Nutrition Specialist
Dr. McClelland is a professor, Department Extension Leader, and nutrition specialist. As professor and specialist she provides leadership and expertise to the overall adult nutrition arena as well as to specific topics of diet-related chronic disease issues including heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes, obesity, and osteoporosis. She has developed or contributed to the development of nutrition education programs including: Partners in Wellness (targeting limited-resource older adults and malnutrition), Black Churches United for Better Health (targeting African Americans and cancer), Building Bones for a Lifetime (targeting women and osteoporosis), and Give Your Heart A Healthy Beat (targeting adults and heart disease and stroke)[link]. She has authored/co-authored over 30 refereed journal articles and over 50 peer-reviewed Extension publications on nutrition, diet-related chronic disease, and behavior change. She has served in leadership capacities within the Society for Nutrition Education including being Chair of the Food and Nutrition Extension Education Division and Co-Chair of the Advisory Committee on Public Policy Subcommittee. She is the Editor-in-chief of The Forum for Family and Consumer Issues, a peer-reviewed e-journal posted at: http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/fcs/pub/forum.html. As Department Extension Leader she gives leadership to departmental efforts and support and guidance to the faculty.
