The Master’s of Science in Family Life and Youth Development is a distance-based thesis degree that requires 36 graduate credit hours culminating in a final oral examination and thesis approved by the student’s graduate committee. As with the M.R. degree, the M.S. program is built upon foundations of theory and application composed of four focus areas: (1) foundations of family life and youth development, (2) professional development and leadership, (3) research and methodological inquiry, and (4) a content area concentration (Youth Development Leadership, Family Life & Parent Education, Volunteer Management & Administration, Administration and Leadership of Youth and Family Programs, Family Life Coaching, and Gerontology). Additionally, graduate courses are required in research methods and statistics to prepare the student to complete and defend the required thesis.
