Responsibilities:

Develops educational curriculum and conducts monthly home visits with parent and child to provide one-on-one instruction addressing the physical, social, cognitive and language develpment of children ages 0-5.

Education:

Graduated in 1978 from Jones Senior High School in Trenton, NC

Graduated in 1982 with a BSBA degree from Appalachian State University

Experience:

Lead Social Worker with the Jones County Department of Social Services in the Family Services Unit, 1982 - 1990.
Duties: Investigator for child abuse and neglect cases, Foster care licensing, day care licensing, and other family and child services

Child Service Coordinator with the Craven County Health Department in Child Health, 1993 - 2000.
Duties: Worked with high-risk children age 0-5, who were at risk for developing disabilities or had a diagnosis of a chronic illness or disability. Responsible for locating available resources for the family and making referrals so that the child was ready to enter school.

Parent Educator with the Craven County Cooperative Extension
Duties: Provide monthly personal visits to families in Craven County with children age 0-5, to help parents understand what to expect in each stage of their child's development. Offer practical tips on ways to encourage learning, manage challenging behavior, and promote strong parent-child relationships. Reinforce that children are Born To Learn and parents are their child's first and most influential teacher.
