Spurweed, burweed, stickerweed and sandbur and are all common names for the same annoying weed that makes for a painful barefoot walk through the lawn in summer. Spurweed, Soliva pterosperma, germinates in the fall and grows through the winter, especially on warm days, until late spring when summer conditions encourage it to set seed.
