Master Gardener Decision Support Guide
Trees
Redbud
- This problem is a fungal canker. The wood beneath the bark will be discolored
brown.
Eventually the shoots beyond the canker will decline and die. Left unattended it may
eventually affect other limbs and branches or the entire plant. The infected stem
should be pruned out several inches below the infection. If, after pruning, the wood is
still discolored, it will be necessary to disinfect the pruners with alcohol and make
another, lower cut until all infected wood is removed.
