Master Gardener Decision Support Guide
Trees
Redbud Roots
You have described symptoms of a root rotting fungus. We do not know how to cure
these problems. It will likely contribute to the death of the tree. If the tree is in
obvious decline, removal should be considered. If the tree appears in good condition
otherwise, it may (or may not) survive for many years; it should, however, be
evaluated for hazard.
For instance, if it falls or breaks up in a storm is it likely to do harm to persons or
valuable property? If so, removal should be considererd.
