Trees
Redbud
The insect you have described is a caterpillar. Some but not
all caterpillars can
be damaging to plants. Significance
of damage may vary with the number of caterpillars present. If
control is required,
Orthene or insecticidal soap may be effective. If the
caterpillar folds over part of a leaf
or webs two leaves together, it may be better to use a systemic
insecticide such as
Orthene. If there is no damage to the foliage, it may be just
one of the insects with
which we
share the world, and control measures are not necessary. For
positve
identification
bring it to the local Cooperative Extension
Office
for accurate diagnosis.
