TEEN RETREAT - 2001 Cumberland County-Fayetteville, NC

Teen Retreat will be held March 23-25, 2001 at the Holiday Inn I-95 in Fayetteville. All active 4-H'ers ages 13-19 are invited to participate.
The cost is $68 per person. Chatham County 4-H will pay $35 for each participant and each 4-H'er will need to pay $33 to register. This includes lodging, Saturday breakfast and lunch, Sunday breakfast, insurance and registration. 4-H'ers will be housed 4 to a room. Adults from Chatham County will be staying 2 to a room. When registering, please indicate roommate choices. Saturday night meal will not be included. Each youth needs to bring money for Friday evening and perhaps Sunday lunch meals enroute and Saturday night meal while at conference.
Leaders and parents that are interested in attending, please call Vernon McHam at 542-8202 and put your name on the list.

Please return registration by Monday, February 26, 2001 in order for us to register with the District.

2001 Chatham County 4-H Fashion Revue

The 2001 4-H Fashion Review will be held Tuesday, April 10, beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Chatham County Cooperative Extension Center.
The pre-registration date for this event is Monday, April 9. It is very important we receive all entries for Fashion Review by this date. Those who do not pre-register will not be able to participate in this event.

Also, all Fashion Review participants are requested to attend a judging session on Tuesday, April 10, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the auditorium of the Chatham County Agricultural building in Pittsboro. Please stress to your participants the importance of attending this session, for judges will be making their final decisions at this time.

Please see attached forms. Work closely with your youth to ensure they follow the rules and regulations. If you have questions, please call Vernon McHam at the 4-H office at 542-8202.

CHATHAM COUNTY 4-H FASHION REVIEW RULES AND REGULATIONS

Garments must have been made in 2001 to enter County Fashion Review. Outfits made (and appearing in other sewing contests are not eligible for the 4-H Fashion Review. A total outfit must be made in order to compete in state competition.Constructing only one separate (such as a skirt, shirt, blouse, pants) is eligible for county competition, but cannot be entered in state competition. Any type of garment may be entered (example): sports outfits, evening wear, coats, dress wear, casual, et cetera. A participant must model the same garment on the county and on the state level. If several separates constructed for the same part of the body are modeled (example: skirt and pants), bring to state judging the separate that the county judges select as the "best" separate. Workmanship must be done entirely by the participant. Information and guidance can be obtained from any source.

Participants must be 9 through 19 as of January 1, 2001. There will be three age divisions: 9-10; 11-12; and 13-19.

Awards: Age Division: 9-10, 11-12, & 13-19
First Place ----- Trophy & $100 Saving Bond
Second Place ---- Trophy & $75 Saving Bond

All garments to be judged must be in the Chatham County Cooperative Extension Service Center by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 9. Garments will not be accepted after this date. Participants should plan to attend a session on Tuesday, April 10, at 6:00 p.m. for judges to make their final decisions.

4-H PUBLIC SPEAKING CONTEST

Tuesday, April 10, 2001
The Chatham County Center of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service will sponsor a Public Speaking Contest through its 4-H Program on Tuesday, April 10, 2001. This program will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the county agriculture building. This event is open to all Chatham County youth between the ages of 9-19. Your 4-H'ers and other youth are invited to participate in this program. The following guidelines will be observed.
. Public Speaking Contest to be held Same Evening as Fashion Revue This form must be received at the Chatham County 4-H office at P. O. Box 279, Pittsboro, NC 27312 by Monday, April 9, 2001. You may also bring your registration slip by the 4-H office in the Agricultural Building at Pittsboro by Monday, April 9. Talks should be original. Brief notes may be used if desired; however, talks should not be read. Talks should be limited to seven minutes maximum. Points will be deducted for talks going over seven minutes as follows: one-half minute, four points; one minute, eight points; and two minutes, sixteen points.
Participants must be 9 through 19 as of January 1, 2001. There will be three age divisions: 9-10; 11- 12; and 13-19.

The 4-H Presentation Contest will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2001, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the county agriculture building auditorium. The Pre-registration date for this event is Wednesday, May 9. It is important that we receive all materials for 4-H Presentations by this date.
Participants must be 9 through 19 as of January 1, 2001. There will be three age divisions: 9-10; 11-12; and 13-19.
Ages 5-8 may participate receiving participation ribbon
Awards:
First Place-Trophy/$100 Saving Bond
Second Place-Trophy/$75 Saving Bond
Third Place--Trophy/$50 Saving Bond
Forth Place-Trophy

Chatham County 4-H Talent Show

The Chatham County 4-H Talent Show will be held Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at 6:30 in the Chatham County Agriculture Building auditorium. Please return the entry form by 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9. Those who do not pre-register will be unable to perform in this year's Talent Show. There will be a junior (9-10)(11-12) and senior (13-19) division. The following talents are suitable: Individual Participation
Vocal Solo, Instrumental Solo -- Guitar, Piano, et cetera, Dancing -- Tap, Ballet, et cetera, Novelty -- Puppetry, Animal Act, Acrobatics, Ventriloquist, Baton Twirling, Impersonations, et cetera, Humorous Reading or Recitation
Group Participation
Vocal -- Duet, Trio, Quartet, Chorus, Instrumental -- Band, etcetera, Dancing -- Folk, Square, etcetera, Novelty -- Puppetry, Animal Act, Acrobatics, et cetera, Skit.
The 4-H Office will have a tape player; however, the youth must provide any other equipment needed for their performance.

It's Summer - It's Camp Time!

2001 - JORDAN LAKE 4-H ADVENTURE DAY CAMPS

BOYS & GIRLS AGES 6-12
4-H MEMBERSHIP IS NOT REQUIRED
CAMP SESSIONS: Monday-Friday CAMP HOURS: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
LUNCH:CAMPERS MUST BRING THEIR LUNCH EACH DAY!!!!!!!
COST: ADVANCE $65.00 PER PERSON PER CAMP WEEK DUE BY March 30.
AFTER SUNDAY, APRIL 1, CAMP FEE WILL BE $75.00 PER CAMPER PER CAMP WEEK Camp fee is nonrefundable. Includes snacks, insurance, & transportation.
WHERE: Vista Point Group Camping Area, SR1700 on Jordan Lake
ENROLLMENT: Enrollment limited to 60 campers per camp session/week.
PROGRAMS: Crafts, Electrical Project, Forestry, Wildlife, Environmental Education, and Recreational Games.
SWIMMING: Recreational swimming everyday. Camp lifeguard on duty. Campers rotate to swimming in small groups with staff member supervising each group.
GROUPS: Campers divided into groups by age. Groups rotate to all activities.
TRANSPORTATION: BUS TRANSPORTATION PROVIDED AT PICKUP LOCATIONS ONLY!

COST OF CAMP: $225.00 (a $50 nonrefundable deposit will reserve a space at camp)
ONE PRICE COVERS ALL EXPENSES: Transportation, Camp Rental, Food, Craft Material, Insurance, T-Shirt, Camp Store Money ($15) & Meal enroute.
PROGRAM: Swimming, Environmental Education, Canoeing, Ropes Course, Carnival, Pioneer Life, Camp Fire, Archery, Astronomy, Horseback Riding, Crafts, Photography

Date-March 13-Council/Leader Meeting-6:30 P.M. Auditorium, Agriculture Building, Pittsboro. All 4-H Members are invited to participate. Your County Council voted to make this “PET NIGHT” and all can bring small animals to show during the meeting. All animals should have current shots and must be confined during the meeting, when not being exhibited by the owner. All parents and leaders will hold a short meeting in the Conference Room.

Winterfest was held on Saturday, January 20, 2001 at Sandhills Community College.

Those attending: Stefanie Jeremiah, Vanessa Moreland, Erin Lindsay, Brittany Lindsay, Jon Sumrell, Margo Stout, Rachel Levy-Thomas, Horton Thompson, Roby Moreland, Jessica Townsend, Melanie Cross, Ashlee Knight, Julia Austin and Paulette Thomas. Please attend the next County Council Meeting to get a report on workshops they attended and learn about the State Project and making scrapbooks. All enjoyed bowling and the game rooms at the local bowling alley before returning home. Many thanks to Julia Austin for driving the activity bus.
