South Central District Volunteer Leaders' Meeting Report

By Julia Austin, District President

The South Central District Volunteer Leaders' meet on Thursday night, August 9, in Southern Pines at Shoney's Restaurant. It was a wonderful meeting and great fellowship. There were 26 in attendance.

The meeting was very productive. There are several events coming up for the Volunteer Leaders. On October 4-7, we will go to Rock Eagle in Eaton, Georgia. North Carolina is in charge of the workshops this year and will be host of the Southern Region Forum in 2002. We need many leaders to go. It is a wonderful learning experience.

Fall Day will be on Saturday, November 3, 2001 at the Hoke County Extension office in Raeford, NC. There are four wonderful workshops planned. Information will be coming to you soon with more details.

The Volunteer Leaders' state conference will be held in February, 2002 at the Sheraton Hotel in research Triangle area. Our district is in charge of registration at the conference. We need many items to go in the bags. We need your help. For more information on the conference, please call Mr. McHam at the 4-H office at 542-8202.

As district president, I am excited about 4-H and the things that are happening in 4-H. We need all volunteer leaders to join us in the many activities that are happening on the county, district and state levels. Jewell Cross and Vernon McHam also attended the District meeting in Southern Pines. We hope all of you can attend the upcoming district and state meetings.

County Council Technology Officer

Chatham County 4-H Council will add a new officer position to the list for the 2002 year. We would like to develop a county 4-H member, leader web page and advertise the opportunities available through 4-H to connect with 4-H'ers in other states. Please be thinking of the nominees that would have the expertise and be willing to take on this task. Qualifications should include a strong interest in computers, knowledge of internet and an interest in communicating with other 4-H members in Chatham County through email. Support will be offered through the Chatham County 4-H office and post can be made through the county 4-H homepage. This person will also act as a part of the County Council officer program and should attend the four council meetings in 2002. Clubs may want to add this office to their list also, and work together as a county team.

Officer Elections

County Council Officer Elections will be held at the annual Round-Up on Tuesday night, September 25. Please be thinking of the best possible people to hold these positions. There will be officer training after the installation of county and club officers. All officers will need to attend this meeting. Clubs should elect officers for their clubs before Achievement night as they will be installed that night.
