NC Cooperative Extension Service Awards




Glennie C. Beasley, Extension Agent, Family & Consumer Sciences, of Chatham County was honored recently at the 67th Annual Session of the National Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. She received the Distinguished Service Award at the conference held September 30-October 4, 2001, in Portland, Oregon. Extension educators were honored for their outstanding program accomplishments. More than 800 Extension educators were in attendance, representing the 50 states, Puerto Rico and Guam.

In receiving the award, Ms. Beasley was recognized for her work in nutrition education for limited resource audiences including food-stamp eligible young families, senior citizens and minorities, as well as food safety education for food service managers and their employees.

The Distinguished Service Award is the highest award presented by the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences. The award recognizes members for leadership, outstanding program efforts, and personal and professional development.

During the NC Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences conference held August 15-16 in Asheville, NC, Ms. Beasley was also the recipient of the North Carolina DSA award; The Community Partnership Team Award - along with Family and Consumer Educators from Lee, Moore, Montgomery, and Scotland counties; as well as a $1500 award for programming in Health and Nutrition.

Ms. Beasley's commitment to meeting the needs of individuals, families, and communities is exemplary.
