The following classes are open to all people regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability and will be held in the downstairs Auditorium at the Agriculture Building, 45 South Street, Pittsboro. Classes will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. (except the Wildlife classes on April 25 & 26 starting at 7:00 p.m.). Please allow about 10-15 minutes to check in, pick up materials, find a seat, and be ready to start. Classes will be taught by Extension Agent Al Cooke except for the Wildlife Classes on April 25 & 26 as noted.

Cost of classes is $5.00 each to cover cost of refreshments and materials. Light refreshments and beverages will be available. Please feel free to bring supper or snacks according to your preference.
February 22 Growing Early Vegetables
Understanding the interactions of plants and weather with strategies to minimize injury and optimize plant growth.
March 1 Heirloom Vegetables
What makes a plant an heirloom? Can you save your own seed? What can you grow and how can you get started?
March 15 Perennials – heirloom and season long
So you want something blooming year round? We can get pretty close. We’ll also consider some “old fashioned heirloom” plants that you might reconsider.
March 22 Xeriscaping – gardening for drought
More than just gardening for drought, we’re going to give you the management practices that will lead you to success with or without a drought.
March 29 Drought tolerant plants
If you missed the class on gardening for drought, this one won’t solve your
problems. If you understand the principles, these are some plants you’ll want
to consider.
April 5 Weed Identification and Management
Bring your own weeds! We’ll be identifying some common spring weeds and trying to understand why we have them and how to manage them
April 19 Landscaping with Native Plants
“Native” is not as well defined as we would like. But we’ll consider a lot of great plants that you can add to your gardening palette.
