Voluntary Agricultural Districts
Over 25% of Chatham County is in farmland. Over 17,500 acres (13%)
is currently in voluntary
agricultural districts. If your property is within one mile of a
voluntary agricultural district, this should
have showed up on your property deed or during the deed search.
Your realtor should have informed
you that you were buying property in or near a voluntary agricultural district.

Chatham farmers want to be good neighbors. Please realize there may
be occasional odors and
noises associated with the farming operation. There may be farm
equipment running day and night
or a slow moving tractor on the highway. Please get to know your
farm neighbor and allow them to
get to know you. Many new residents move to Chatham County because
of the rural setting and the
high quality of life that goes with it. Farming is part of the rural
quality of life in Chatham County.
Let's be good neighbors!
