RE: Registration for the 2005 Southeastern Regional Dairy Youth Retreat due on Thursday July 14
South Carolina (Clemson University) is the host for the 2005 Southeastern Regional Dairy Youth Retreat that will be held July 28-31 at the South Carolina FFA Leadership Center in North Myrtle Beach, SC. The cost being charged for the retreat is $200 per person. However, the North Carolina Dairy Youth Foundation will pay for the bus transportation to and from the retreat and also part of the registration expenses for the North Carolina participants. Because of this generous funding from the North Carolina Dairy Youth Foundation, the cost for North Carolina participants will be $165 per person. This includes transportation, lodging, meals and events while at the retreat. The facilities at the South Carolina FFA Leadership Center are dormitory type rooms with bunk beds and communal bathrooms.
Items you will need to bring with you to the retreat include:
-Bed linens for a single bed
-Flip flops or shower shoes
-Bathing suit
-Sunscreen
-Towels
-Personal toiletries
-Spending money for souvenirs
The North Carolina group will join with youth from Virginia and travel to South Carolina on a chartered bus with pick-up points in Jonesville, Statesville and Asheboro. The group will leave North Carolina on Thursday morning July 28 and will return on Sunday afternoon July 31.
The folks in South Carolina are planning several workshops at the retreat including: Dairy Quiz Bowl, Dairy Foods, Ocean Marine Ecology, 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens and possibly a tour of the Fort Fisher Aquarium in Wilmington, NC. Other activities include the Alabama Theatre, Dixie Stampede, the Myrtle Beach Grand Prix, swimming, a ropes course, kayaking and a trip to the beach.
Please check at the bottom of this letter for the attachments that include registration forms and code of conduct/medical release forms. Make additional copies as needed.
To confirm reservations, we must receive the following items by Thursday July 14, 2005:
- The enclosed registration and code of conduct/medical release forms, (including the forms from South Carolina) completely filled out and signed by the parent or guardian of the participant.
- A check for $165 for each participant (adult or youth) made payable to the "North Carolina Dairy Youth Foundation".
- Send the forms and the check to Dr. Brinton Hopkins, Box 7621, Department of Animal Science, NC State University, Raleigh, NC 27695-7621. Once we receive the registration forms and check, we will notify you of the final travel arrangements.
(NOTE: We realize that July 14 is a short turnaround time to get your forms and check sent in for registration, but we just today (June 29) received the final information from the retreat planners in South Carolina.)
