Rooster Peppers at Perry-winkle
Farm
Chapel Hill, NC

Perry-winkle Farm produces sustainably-grown
vegetables, cut flowers, and free-range eggs under the stewardship
of farmer Cathy Jones, her husband Michael Perry, and a crew of
devoted workers. Every fall, Cathy makes wreaths and ristras (bouquets)
from "rooster" peppers, an heirloom hot pepper. The peppers
pictured above are starting to turn color and will soon be ready
to harvest. Cathy saves her own seed and raises her own transplants.
The pepper plants are transplanted in early summer. You can visit
Perry-winkle Farm at the Carrboro
Farmers' Market and the Fearrington
