The Chatham County Beekeepers held a field day for the students of the 2011 Chatham County Beekeeping School at the CCCC Student Farm in Pittsboro. The Chatham County Beekeepers' Association owns and manages the five bee hives at the farm. The Bee School is conducted by Chatham County Cooperative Extension and the Chatham County Beekeepers' Association (CCBA).

The field day is basically a "hive dive" where we inspect the hives, look for signs of a healthy queen, and give students a chance to see all the things we have been discussing in class. They also get a chance to practice lighting a smoker. Expert Chatham beekeepers opened up the hives for the students - we did two shifts to keep the group size manageable.

The Field Day was organized by beekeeper Jim Williams. CCBA instructors included Jim Williams, Michael Almond, Mort Matheny, Judy Pick, Ray Wise, Rod Caffey, and Pat Weisbrodt.
