I hope each of you had a restful and enjoyable summer! Now that school is back in session, it is time to make plans for your class to participate in the 2005-2006 4-H Embryology Program. The 4-H Embryology Program is more than just watching chicks hatch. The embryology program emphasizes a “hands-on” learning experience. The program involves hatching eggs for twenty-one days in a still-air incubator while learning about the life cycle and caring for animals.

What do you have to do to register?

All you have to do is fill out the below form and return it to the Chatham County 4-H office, or you can call us and give us the date you would like to sign up for.

How much does it cost?

Thanks to the support of the United Way of Chatham County and GoldKist Hatchery in Siler City, this program is provided free of charge for all teachers that choose to participate. Chatham County 4-H will provide an incubator and all the necessary parts that go with it, fertilized eggs, activity sheets, Embryology leader's guide, and evaluation forms.

How do I get the materials?

All the materials are delivered to and picked up from your school at different times. First the incubator, curriculum and necessary forms will be delivered to your school. Next, the fertilized eggs will be delivered and the pre-activity results as well as the participation race/gender form, and participation roster will be picked up. These things must be turned in to receive the eggs. After the eggs hatch, we will come pick up the cleaned incubators as well as the post-activity results and teacher evaluation forms. We are also available to come to your classroom and teach one of the lessons for you if you are interested.

Chatham County 4-H will be offering 3 sessions of embryology this year. Please select the session that best suits your teaching plan and class schedule.

Please complete this registration form and email or FAX (542-8246) it to us or call us with your preference by Wednesday, August 31, 2005.
