Master Gardener Decision Support Guide

Blackbirds

Sprouting corn in small gardens can be covered with netting. Frightnening devices may be effective. Use a combination of scare devices, vary them and be persistent. Scare devices include mylar tape, electronic noise devices, radio controlled model planes, helium filled ballons and distress calls. Shooting birds can reinforce scare devices but is not effective if no other devices are used. If you are dealing with a roosting site or larger field see the additional information from Nebraska.
