Woody Ornamentals
Rhododendron
There are two insects that bore down into the stem. The same
control measures apply to both. The insects are the dogwood twig
borer
and the rhododendron borer. These insects will make frequent
holes down the side where they push out frass. These insects
will continue toward the ground until they have completed their
two year life cycle. Pruning down the stem until you find the
insect
or get below the damage will prevent this insect from causing
major damage. Spraying in April with Dursban can help prevent
the adults from laying eggs.
