Woody Ornamentals

Rhododendron

The disease you have described is rhododendron leaf and shoot gall. It doesn't hurt the overall health or growth of the plant. Once you see the problem it is too late to protect the plants this year. The actions you take this year will not reduce future infections. The disease is variable and may not show up next year even if no action is taken. In nurseries or high value landscapes, ferbam sprayed in the spring when leaves first start to unroll, and again in 10 days will help prevent this disease.
