Woody Ornamentals

Rhododendron

The problem you have described is either chemical damage or rhododendron gall midge. Chemical damage should be associated with a chemical application and should affect more than one species. The rhododendron gall midge is a tiny insect feeds in the spring and causes distorted leaves to emerge. There is no way to undo the damage once it has occurred. Chemical controls for the rhododendron gall midge are not listed in the Chemical Manual. For more information see Insect Note (Not Available), Insect Picture (Not Available), Pesticide Chart (Not Available, Pest Management Calendar.
