Woody Ornamentals

Pyracantha

Stem dieback can be caused by fireblight, winter injury, anthracnose (Gomerella cingulata), or adverse enviromental conditions. If there is dieback after leaves emerge in the spring and a definite bacterial ooze, the problem is fireblight. Other stem problems require a sample be submitted to the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service for accurate diagnosis.
