Woody Ornamentals

Camellia

The problem you have described is lichens. Lichens contain both a fungus and an algae. They will not directly harm the plant. They often grow better and are noticed when the plant is in a state of decline from other problems. Since lichens do not harm the plant, there is no need for control measures.
