Letter From The President
Everyone has been working hard to make our first SRERSSA meeting in Nashville, Tennessee, November 12-14 2008 a success. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved. You are to be commended for your dedication and support to SRERSSA, as well as Cooperative Extension as a whole.
The By-Laws Committee, Chaired by Mary Baronet, Louisiana, has drafted a set of by-laws and have them ready for presentation in November at the business meeting to be held on Friday morning, November 14th.
The Meeting & Planning Committee, Chaired by Devona Beard, North Carolina, has done an outstanding job! They have Professional Development Workshops scheduled with the following presenters:
- “Customer Service” - Dr. Wanda Sykes, District Director, N.C. State University Cooperative Extension Service
- “Generation Gumbo” – Deborah G. Bost, Cabarrus County Extension Director, N. C. State University Cooperative Extension Service
- “Has ‘Casual Friday’ Gone Too Far?” – Minnie Mitchell, Extension Agent, Cabarrus County, N. C. State University Cooperative Extension Service
- Keynote Banquet Speaker, Dr. Debra Davis, Louisiana State University, started her career as a Cooperative Extension Secretary
Educational Tours Include:
- President Andrew Jackson’s home, garden, grounds and museum
- Belle Meade Mansion for lunch
- A Civil War skirmish was fought on the front lawn
- General Jackson Showboat-Dinner Cruise
- Grand Ole Opry
- Nashville City Tour
- Ryman Auditorium
- Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum
Participants will have a choice of workshops and tours and also a choice of arriving early or staying extra nights to take in the city of Nashville.
Commemorative items will be available for purchase and include conference shirts with logo, coaster stone with logo, or tumbler with logo.
This is just a short update to keep you abreast of what is happening. Sounds exciting doesn’t it????!!!!!
Again, I thank you all for your help!! I look forward to seeing you again in Tennessee and meeting new people from all over the United States. Be sure to join us!! We are on our way to becoming a National organization!
