Susan Condlin, Candy Murray, Jennifer Walker, Judy Henderson and Dr. Sandy Zaslow,
President, France Turner, called the meeting to order at 10:15 am. Each person
was given an agenda (attachment 1). State Life Member Representative Judy Henderson
shared an inspirational thought, "Is Work Your God".

Minutes of the August 26, 2002 Executive Board Meeting
Lisa Childers, Secretary was on Jury Duty -Agnes Evans took minutes.
The minutes were read and with the correction made- the minutes were approved and
will be posted to the Web Site.
Financial Report (attachment 2)
Members can request a complete copy of the financial report from the Secretary or Treasurer.
Since the State Meeting in August 2002 the Treasurer had to take out $600.00 from
the savings account to meet expenses.
The Money (Income) in the Endowment Fund is Down-we will just ride it out for now.
132 paid members for National and 135 for State members. A motion was made by
Candy Murray to accept the Financial Report, seconded by Marilyn Gore, motion passed.
National Meeting Highlights:
Frances gave a report on the 2002 National Meeting held in Kansas City Mo. (attachment 3a).
Delegates to the National Meeting (6) from North Carolina (138 members)-
Membership are based on the August 1 deadline. The membership year runs from
January 1, 2003, to December 31,2003.
A suggestion was made to get the FCS Specialist and FCS Staff to become members
and pay the $62.00 dues. Drs. Sandy Zaslow and Sandy Wiggins are members.
The possibility of letting PA's join the Organization was discussed.
National meeting Delegates for 2003 will be 5 based on the 132 National members.
DSA award 3 applications
National Meeting-Jazzing it up in Kansas City NEAFCS 2002 "Catch the Leadership Beat".
October 6-10-2002.

Friendship Event- Union Train Station (2nd largest train station in North America
Kansas City -Bar-B-Cue (it was different)
Kansas City Musicians "Love and Chocolate for 1st. Timer's and Retirees.

Business Meeting-Candy Murray
For PA's to become a member was sent back to Committee.
Defeated the motion to add another 2nd VP for Public Affairs.
Get rid of the Delegates and let each member have a vote.
Cut 15% out of the Budget.
One PILD scholarship per state-this year granted 2 because only 17 states applied.
Good Meeting.
Federation
The Weather was a major factor, with the Federation not meeting.
Most of the work was done by Computer- including the Election.
$500.00 was taken out of Federation treasurer for Reception at the meeting in Asheville, NC.
At the District Spring meeting, Federation issues should be brought up and prioritize.
Our Web page is now linked to the Federation Web site.
The possibility of hiring a Lobbyist was sent back to Committee.
Southern Region Workshop (attachment 4)
Frances Turner and Evelyn Deloatch attended the meeting in Asheville, NC
"Building Excellence for Tomorrow" was the theme. (Attachment 4) Dr. Ort led
the opening session and two presentations were provided: Generation Gumbo;and Goof to Great.
NC Federation of Cooperative Extension Agents sponsored a Hospitality Suite.
Mary Wells Diversity Pledge ($250.00)
Each State Affiliate donated $250 for the Mary Wells Diversity Award sometime around 1994.
The Issue is whether or not this is a one-time pledge or a continuous pledge.
The Secretary and Treasurer will review documents to determine the correct policy is.
LIVING Well-NEAFCS PSA" Campaign- Marilyn Gore
Living well: A Public Service Announcement (PSA) campaign to promote Extension
Education in Family and Consumer Sciences. Living Well is funded and sponsored
by NEAFCS and was introduced at the Annual Session in October. Dr. Zaslow and
Evelyn Deloatch attended sessions where they were introduced to the campaign and
have begun initial work within our State.
A copy is on the Web site. There is a cost involved in presenting this program.
NEW BUSINESS
2003 National Meeting Highlights
Galaxy II Exceeding Expectations Through Teamwork"
Registration Fee $310.00
Marriott Hotel is the Headquarters for the NEAFCS-Meetings will be held there.
Joint meetings of all Associations will be held at the Convention Center.
State picture will be taken on September 22, 2003
North Carolina is to provide an item for the "Silent Auction"- The item needs to be of good quality.
A request will be made of the FCS Agents for items. Evelyn Deloatch will handle
this and report at the State meeting in August.
FCS UPDATE
Dr. Sandy Zaslow brought greetings to the group.
Long Range plan "Strengthening and Sustaining Families" has received many
complements and 4H and Agriculture are looking at the Report.

Short and long term FCS staffing
High Priority positions
36 % decline in FCS positions since 1993
Wilson County down one FCS Agent
Nash County position was saved through justification and documentation
Need to let Dr. Ort know of our concerns
What needs to be done?
Our FCS Association needs to be an Advocate for this High Priority Issue our voices need to be heard.

FCS Agents that are doing new assignments that are out of their assign areas
should be documenting this activity.
State and District Vacancies
A Change in Officers resulted in Sandra Head becoming the Vice-President of
Professional Development, and Verline Stephenson - North East District President-
these appointments were made in accordance with the By-Laws of the Organization.
Horn of Plenty
Horn of Plenty will be held August 14, 2003 in High Point in Guilford County.
Theme will be
Mardi Gras. Frances Turner will serve as a greeter for our organization.
When the Association is invited to attend other "functions" to represent
our association there is usually a fee/cost involved
(ex. The 4-H Gala was a Hundred Dollars ($100.00) and was Formal attire).

An Increase in dues won't come into effect until after the Annual State Meeting
Candy Murray made a motion to increase the dues to $10.00 per member, Jennifer
Walker seconded it, and after a brief discussion the motion was passed.
Maurene will contact the State FCS staff about joining the Association
Encourage Retirees to become Life Members of Association.

There were 40 entries this year. Concern about the Final amount that the Ada
Dalla Pozza recipient receives. The Money is taxed. (The amount awarded the
Recipient was $1400. But the Recipient only received $830.87. This issue will be looked into.

NC Server was down, got new password-now back up-Post-new information to WEB
site on Wednesday. Plan to link to FCS Department/NCSU
Hope Hunt remains active in editing the web site. She maintains the retiree link.
