Minutes - 9th Annual Meeting |
The ninth annual state meeting of the North Carolina Association of Agricultural Extension Secretaries was held September 17, 1982 at the Islander Motor Inn, Emerald Isle, NC.
The meeting was called to order by President Cynthia Potter at 10 a.m.
Welcome greetings were extended by: Mary Sue Noe, Chairperson Carteret County Commissioners; Ralph Sasser, Southeastern District Chairman; and Cynthia Potter, NCAAES President.
David Quinn, Swansboro High School, gave a special musical presentation in song. The invocation was given by Rev. Jimmy Sides, Pastor of First Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
Katie Ethridge, Onslow County, introduced the Second.Division Marine Corps Band, Camp LeJeune, Jacksonville. They gave a tremendous musical performance.
Recognition of special guests was made by Cynthia Potter. They were: Dr. Bob Wells, Associate Director; Mrs. Josephine Pat.terson, Northeastern District Chairman; Kathleen Nelson, District program treader; Ralph Sasser, Southeastern District Chairman; Mrs. Addie Harrell, District Extension Chairman's Secretary; and County Extension Chairmen - Hoover Royals, Anson; Jim Bunce, Carteret; Mrs. Lois Britt, Duplin; Jim Stephenson, Nash.
Associate Director of Extension, Dr. Bob Wells, spoke on "Pride in Professionalism."
Dorraine Jacobs, Miss Columbus County - 1981 and third in Miss North Carolina - 1982, entertained with songs and monologue using the theme, "I Am Woman".
The meeting recessed for lunch at 12 noon and reconvened at 1 p.m.
President Potter announced that Dr. Paul Dew was present.at the pig pickin1 Thursday and presented a plaque for 38 years service to Pauline Houston, Western Association.
Pam Ginn, Greene County, made a motion that the reading of the minutes be dispensed with since everyone had received copies by mail. The motion was seconded and passed.
Cleo Geer gave the treasurer's report, which shows a balance of NCAAES money as $1,783.59.

Old Business
Betty Penland made a motion that they be accepted. The motion was seconded and carried.
Committee Reports
Motion was made, seconded, and passed that this slate be accepted. Margaret Reynolds, NCAAES State Advisor, conducted the installation ceremony.
Mrs. Lois Britt, Duplin County Extension Chairman, presented Cynthia Potter an arrangement of cut flowers in recognition of her work in Extension.
A moment of silent prayer was held for Jessie Ell is, Craven County Extension Secretary, due to her illness.
An Evaluation Form was distributed to everyone present to be filled out. The results will be compiled by Southeastern District and sent to next year's host district, Northwestern.
The Northwestern District issued an invitation- for the 10th NCAAES Annual Meeting. Pat Birdsong, Watauga County-NW, showed a film, "High Country - A Land for All Seasons," and passed out a questionnaire for program preferences in 1983.
Joy Marshall, Second Vice-President, took charge of giving out door prizes.
Lillian Briggs adjourned the meeting at 3 p.m.
