President's Message

This past year, serving as President of the North Carolina Association of Extension 4-H Agents has been a memorable one for me. Representing our NC 4-H Agents Association at JCEP and PILD allowed me to experience tremendous learning opportunities. The experiences and people that I have met through our state and national associations will stay with me for a lifetime. I thank you all for this opportunity and challenge each of you to reflect on how you best can serve both our state and national associations. IT IS WELL WORTH IT!

In 2009 we will celebrate 100 years of 4-H in NC. Over these 100 years, the face of 4-H has changed immensely. I ask that you all join me in welcoming the newest face of 4-H, Dr. Marshall Stewart, as our State 4-H Leader. We are excited as Dr. Stewart brings with him creativity and passion to direct our program to a new level. NC has one of the top 4-H programs in the nation and with Dr. Stewart's leadership, WE WILL Make even the Best, Better! As we create new memories with Dr. Stewart, we also need to reflect on who transitioned us to this point. In 2002, Dr. Thearon McKinney was appointed as interim State 4-H Leader. I would like to take this opportunity to personally thank Thearon for his wiliness to serve as interim for the past three years. Thearon, I thank you for your time and your commitment to NC 4-H.

I again emphasize your involvement in your associations. In order for us to Make the Best, Better, we need YOU! I hope you will take time to join the Southeast District for our "Message in a Bottle" NCAE4-HA State Meeting to allow for your professional development, fellowship with others and some just plain FUN. See you in August!

Yours In 4-H,

Peggie M. Lewis,
President, NCAE4-HA
