DRAFT MINUTES The Board of Directors and Officers of the North Carolina Association of Cooperative Extension Specialists met following the Friday, May 7, association meeting in the Walnut Room of the Talley Student Center on N.C. State University's campus. Present were Ted Feitshans, John O'Sullivan, Dee Shore, Rhonda Sherman, Sarah Kirby and Dennis Osborne. Not present were John Rushing, Mike Yoder and Greg Cope. Federation Membership Fee John reported that the Executive Board of the North Carolina Federation of Cooperative Extension Associations has proposed a $50 annual fee for each member association. The issue should be voted on by the association’s membership at the October meeting. Awards Process John encouraged the board to ask county faculty and staff to become involved in the nomination of the Extension Education Award for Outstanding Specialist in Support of County Programs. He said he would use the Federation Forum in December as an avenue for encouraging such participation. Brochure and Letter to Encourage Membership John expressed disappointment at the low number of specialists who are members of the association and who actively participate. He recommended, and the board members agreed, that a brochure and letter be developed to encourage participation. John will draft a letter with input from Dennis, and Dee will work on a brochure. Officer and board elections The board discussed potential candidates for 3 board member positions as well as the officer positions of president-elect, secretary-treasurer and secretary of the North Carolina Federation of Cooperative Extension Associations. Dee, Dennis and John agreed to follow up with suggested individuals to find out if they would be interested in serving and willing to have their names on the ballot. The ballot -- including two nominees for president-elect, one for secretary-treasurer and three or four for board -- will be presented to the membership in October for voting. Dennis agreed to be nominated to serve as the Federation’s secretary, and John reported that Bob Williamson had agreed to be nominated for the Board of Directors. October program Board members suggested several topics for the October meeting:
