RESPONSIBILITIES OF DISTRICT DIRECTORS

  1. Work with Membership Chairperson to contact prospective members or "overdue" members (write personal letter; make a phone call; or have a face-to-face conversation with each prospective member from your district).
  2. Work with Membership Chairperson to contact "drop-outs" or potential drop-outs in district, thus encouraging members to remain active by paying dues or rejoining.
  3. Assist Recognition and Awards Committee in making sure that nominations for state awards are prepared and submitted for worthy candidates within the specific district.
  4. Conduct election within district for Vice-Director.
  5. Make recommendations to President for members from district to serve on state committee.
  6. Work on special projects or assignments at the pleasure of the President and/or Board of Directors.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF VICE-DIRECTORS

  1. Assist District Director in working with Membership Committee, Recognition and Awards Committee, or other Director assignments such as recommendations for members from district to serve on state committees.
  2. Substitute for District Director at Board Meetings or District Meetings.
  3. Accepts the District Director role during the following year.
  4. Assumes responsibility for special assignments at the pleasure of the President and/or Board of Directors.

  3. Considers nominations for any chapter originated state awards; follows through on selection process, securing awards, and making presentations.
  4. Arranges for appropriate recognition ceremonies, written summaries for use in newsletters and/or program booklets, certificates, and/or other appropriate mementoes.

RESPONSIBILITIES OF LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON

  1. Studies Federal and State Legislation that affect Cooperative Extension and are of interest to ESP. Keeps the membership informed of these matters.
  2. Studies changes and proposed changes in state and federal retirement programs.
  3. Makes recommendations to the Board for proposed actions.
  4. Coordinates the PILD trip to Washinton DC in May for all State Associations,

RESPONSIBILITIES OF MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSON

  1. Obtains from Annalist (or Secretary) a list of eligible members, in advance of Annual Meeting.
  2. Sends letter of invitation (application form) to prospects.
  3. Collects initiation fees/dues from initiates and sends them to State Treasurer.
  4. Conducts an induction ceremony at State Annual Meeting.
  5. Presents to new members: ESP pin or tie tack, national constitution/bylaws, state constitution/bylaws, extension professionals/ creed, membership card, and/or other items chosen by the state.

  1. Determines (from Extension Personnel Office and other sources) names of deceased members and former members.
  2. Prepares a tribute to each deceased member and send to the closest relative within two months after passing.
  3. Sends a list of deceased members to State Secretary and National Executive Secretary/Treasurer.

  1. Informs the membership of State scholarship and/or loan funds that are available for ESP members for advanced professional study.
  2. Informs the membership of the National scholarship, grant, and/or loan funds that are available for Extension workers through ESP and other professional organizations.
  3. Studies ways to promote and foster professional improvement at the state meeting of ESP and other professional organizations to which Extension professionals belong.
  4. Encourages subscriptions to THE JOURNAL OF EXTENSION.
  5. Encourages members to go on special study tours.
  6. Involves members in the fraternity to develop growth in the profession.
