State ESP County Performance Award

I. Staff Cooperation: Please list evidence of a total Extension program concept for your county. Indicate ways or give examples of how staff members support each
other in program efforts.

o Fred May: Area agriculture agent. Fred works with fellow staff members in several ways. Fred works with the 4-H program during Summer youth programming, 4-H camp registration, securing 4-H camp scholarships, and 4-H achievement night. Fred shares knowledge with local family & consumer science clubs through the county. Fred has also shared knowledge and program skills with the family nutrition program, Out For Lunch.

o Trudy Smith: Family & Consumer Science agent: Trudy collaborates with the 4-H program during Summer youth programming. Trudy has also helped with agriculture programs in the county such as the annual farm tour. Trudy collaborates in many way with the family nutrition program in programming and subject matter areas.

o Sherry Howlett: Family Nutrition PA: Sherry collaborates with the 4-H program by helping secure 4-H camp scholarships. Sherry speaks to groups on the behalf of the 4-H program. Sherry also helps with Summer youth programming as well. Sherry has helped with Family & Consumer Science programming as well.

o Edwina Green: Family Nutrition PA: Edwina collaborates with her fellow PA on family nutrition programs throughout Pamlico and Craven counties. Edwina helps with family and consumer science programs such as color me healthy. Edwina is very involved with the 4-H program as a 4-H volunteer leader, summer youth workshop host, 4-H camp scholarship recruiter, and 4-H camp assistant to the 4-H agent.

o Neil Callahan: 4-H Agent: Neil collaborates with agriculture programs through use of computer skills. These computer skills are also shared with all other staff members as well. Neil has collaborated on family & consumer science programs in the past. Neil works with the family nutrition program by introducing their program to new clientele.

o Celia Wilson: Extension Secretary: Celia works behind the scenes on all extension programs in Pamlico. From mailing letters, calling participants, and helping with program dinners, she does it all. It is not possible to list all of her collaborations.

o Ray Harris: Interim CED: Ray collaborates with agriculture programs in Pamlico. Ray works with local farmers to help them better their agri-business. Ray has also taught fraud protection workshops to local seniors.


II. Resource Utilization: State evidence how your staff uses the resources of the University for training and program support. Identify ways the staff uses community resources to the extent needed to do an outstanding job.

The staff uses research-based information from the university in all county extension programs in Pamlico County. Training skills and materials from extension specialist are used in various ways. Extension specialist are used in the county to answer questions and solve problems local people may have.

Of course, in order to do more with less, county extension staff make use of community resources such as volunteers, money, buildings, skills, and various other resources. These resources help county extension staff extend to the knowledge of the land grant universities to more people in the county.

III. Program Impact: List evidence that your programs are resulting in significant changes in the lives and actions of your clientele.

o Over 280 children participated in summer programming alone.

o Farmers gained valuable knowledge that help them make their crop more profitable.

o Grant money has been raised for a local farmers market in the county, a first.

o More families are learning about proper nutrition through the family nutrition program.

o Nearly $15,000 was raised to support 4-H programs in the county.

o Families learned valuable skills such as fraud protection for seniors, financial planning, and cooking solo.
