State ESP County Performance Award
The following are areas that the Bladen County Staff have worked together as a team to conduct.
EXPO - Since 1991, the Bladen County Extension faculty and staff in partnership with the Expo committee has provided leadership for the county's largest annual event. Each staff member is responsible for a specific work area. Numerous county agencies and organizations assist.
MARKETING - Conscious effort has been made to increase visibility for North Carolina Cooperative Extension - Bladen Center. In cooperation with Bladen faculty/staff and networking agencies, the most advantageous marketing techniques available for Bladen Cooperative Extension have been utilized. The combination of secure relations with local media (including newspaper, radio and outdoor advertising) volunteers, and creative marketing techniques such as brochures, flyers, posters and placemats, have provided noticeable recognition for the Bladen Center.
Total staff participation with programming efforts and events such as Relay for Life, the Byron Gooden Golf Tournament and Bladen County Agriculture & Business Expo have modeled a community spirit for Bladen citizens. Some examples are:
- Developed booklet: 2000 State Annual meeting of NC Ext. Assoc. of FCE
- Developed 3 invitations for Delilah Blanks, Pres. of NC Assoc. County Commissioners
- Developed flyer: Major Bladen Farm Commodities
- Developed brochure: Bladen Teen Court & 4-H Juvenile Restitution
- Developed envelope packet: Family Disaster Kit (Collaboration: Health Dept. & Extension)
- Developed sign: Welcome to Bladen County Signs in collaboration with County Government
- Bladen Agriculture & Business Expo marketing: Over 30,000 printed pieces annually
- Healthy Families Community Directory (English/Spanish) 5,000 copies printed
- Extension sponsored Relay for Life team raised $3,403
4-H SUMMER ACADEMY - A summer youth program conducted for 170 youth. Fourteen members of the faculty and staff assisted.
HORN OF PLENTY - The entire Bladen County faculty and staff was involved with the 2001 Horn of Plenty held in Fayetteville. We chaired the staging and decorations committee and prepared/served five main dishes.
FARM-CITY WEEK BANQUET - The annual Farm-City Week banquet is a highlight of the year. The entire staff is involved in making this event a success.
WELL WATER SCREENING - Eight staff members worked to assemble 500 water screening kits, prepare and distribute mailings and flyers, conduct 200 screening tests and log data.
