NCAE4-HA Opening Business Meeting

Crystal called to order. There were motions to accept agenda and minutes as presented.

Angela Shaver presented the treasurers report:
Enrichment - $3409.57
Operating - $12,281.19
Endowment - $91,301.17

Committee Reports:
Annual Conference - Presented by Danielle Barco. Committee will work on professional development workshops for the annual conference in Charlotte. Dale Safrit will be meeting with the group to share results of professional development survey.

Constitution - Presented by Joyce Watts. The committee will have a few constitution related items to review and discuss.

Diversity - Presented by Nikkoma Simmons. Will discuss items and bring them back to group.

Finance - Presented by Angela Shaver. The committee will discuss some ideas for how to reach the $100,000 endowment goal by 2009 for 100th anniversary of 4-H and donation to Ag. Agents National meeting. Forms are available to make donations to the Association through payroll deduction.

Membership - Presented by Jennifer Brewer. 166 state members and 135 renewing members. New member orientation is planned for Friday morning during committee meeting time. New members attending first state meeting were introduced.

Nominating - Presented by Spring Williams. There will be no district caucus this year as part of elections. Nominating needs at least one additional person to run for each Association office.

Professional Development - There was a large number of professional development scholarship applications for 2007. Information about the format, content and procedure for handling the scholarship applications was sent via e-mail.

Programs - Presented by Shea Ann DeJarnette. The committee is collecting information about summer programming and plans to share it prior to summer season.

PRI - Jeanette Schuzler reporting. The committee is discussing plans for share fair and reviewing the description of the committee.

Rapport - Sara Kotzian reporting. The committee is working on March newsletter with items due March 5.

Recognition - Lesa Walton reporting. Over 90 applications for awards for received. Presented national awards to Ed Maxa, Suzanne Rhinehart, and Crystal who did not receive their awards at the national meeting due to misspellings.

Historian - Presented by Richard Freeman. Richard reminded the membership that if you have items for archives related to history of organization they can be given to him.

District Reports:
NC - Brandi Boaz reporting. Their last district association meeting was in Wake County with program on Change and they also had a district Awards workshop. Their next meeting is May 18 in Caswell County with a program on stress management.

NE - Danielle Barco reporting. The NE district association met in April with Science House.

NW - Barb Swanson reporting. She welcomed everyone to Winter Board. The NWD held a baby shower for Julie Jones. They are focusing on strengthening the club unit as a district and sharing resources and ideas. Invited agents to attend Discover and Explore, 3-day science and technology training.

SC - Roshunda Blount reporting. Mary Bowles is retired. They will have a spring meeting in Chatham county in April.

SE - Tammy Boyd reporting. SE held a district agents retreat in Morehead with focus on club development and success stories. Introduced new agents recently hired.

SW - Robbie Furr reporting. SW had a holiday gathering at the Inn at Glenn Alpine. They are meeting April 19 to work on plans for the Annual Conference. There were 12 award applications from SW.

W - Heather James reporting. The agents in the West are meeting regularly to share some responsibilities and share ideas for professional development.

Southern Region - Carolyn Langely. Will be traveling to a number of Southern states and representing NAE4-HA.

Unfinished Business:
Web - no update.

Enrichment Fund - no other business.

Federation - 10 members attended. Dr. Gloria Warren has been hired as 4-H specialist at A&T. NCSU is now doing criminal background checks for new agents being hired. March 2 is Federation Board.

National Ag Agents Association Meeting - the Ag. Agents have asked for financial support for hosting their national meeting.

Ag. Foundation Request - the board was asked to secure financial support from the Ag. Foundation. We will be asking for support for association. Received support from 4-H Foundation last year but we did not received money from Ag. Foundation for last year.

Who can vote - There has been some questions about who can vote during board meetings. Only board members can vote. Committee members are part of board but can not vote.

JCEP - NCAE4-HA was represented by Crystal and Danielle in Jan. at JCEP. Globalization was a featured topic during the conference.

New Business:
Recognition - there have been some questions about who can serve on recognition committee. Based on review of the constitution, it is not required but recommended, that members have previously received association awards. Membership is limited to 1 voting delegate per district on this committee.

Joint FCS and 4-H Assoc. meeting - The membership has been asked to look at possibility of a joint meting and would like to form ad hoc committee of 7 to look at pros and cons.

Association Web site - link is active.

Gala - Mike Martin reporting. The Gala will be June 11 in Charlotte. The Gala will honor Rick Hendrick. Dr. Blalock was a national hall of fame inductee. Louise Hinsley shared her experiences with attending the Gala and encouraged others to consider attending or purchasing tickets to send a 4-H volunteer or supporter from the county.

Other 4-H Development Fund Projects - 300 paid 4-H license plate holders are needed by the end of the year in order to create the 4-H speciality license plate. There is an additional cost for these as part of the tag renewal but the extra will come back to the counties and state 4-H program. The membership was encouraged to share this information with 4-H families in the counties and consider purchasing one for personal vehicles.

Carolina Preserves - books are all out in counties and some counties opened funds to be able to receive the dollars.
Marketing - There is a 4-H ad on a Commodity Truck from Salisbury. 4-H teamed-up with southern states to have model trucks for sale for $30 and ½ of the proceeds will come back to 4-H and the FFA program.
