President's Message

Giving them our BEST!!!

Behind every 4-H activity, opportunity, and program and behind every 4-H educator, lies an extensive body of knowledge, scholarship, and research.
That's what makes a 4-H professional a leader in youth development. And that's what makes 4-H a great experience for young people.- the 4-H Professional Research, Knowledge and Competency Model

As 4-H professionals, we have a duty to our 4-H'ers, parents, volunteers, donors, and other professionals to be at the top of our game! To know and do what it takes to get the job done. Your involvement in the district, state, and national associations is a key to not just getting the job done, but getting the job done right! The attendance at our Winter Professional Meeting showed your commitment and dedication to our professional development. Even though it was cut short by the weather, we did what ever it took to get the job done!

Who would have thought that the corn club that started 96 years ago in Ahoskie would have developed into the youth development organization it is today? Dr. Raleigh Parker, C.A. Worrell, E.D. Hill, Charles Parker, T.E. Browne, Henry T. Browne, J. Raynor Moore, Troy Newsome, I.O. Schaub and L.R. Harrill may have pioneered club work and turned it into 4-H, but the time, sweat, and hard work that each 4-H professional, member, parent, volunteer, and donor has given in these past 96 years has created what 4-H is today.

The public needing 4-H is the reason it has been around for these 96 years. Making sure your community knows what good things 4-H does, what lives 4-H touches, and what impact 4-H makes creates this NEED for 4-H. The Guiding Coalition for the change management and marketing initiative has an immediate focus to create a clear identity that conveys the essence of Extension's value to the state. Understanding this focus will allow us as 4-H professionals to fulfill the NEED of our communities.

It is our job to tell the story of “What’s Happening With 4-H in Our County”. Telling others about our successes on the local, state and national level, will create the desire for youth to need 4-H and want to get involved with 4-H.

The following websites from National 4-H are a good place to tell others about your 4-H success stories and successful 4-H programs.

Take the time to create your counties 4-H story! We all look forward to reading about it in our next issue of Rapport!

Yours In 4-H,
