Overview:
This module discovers how medication use may affect nutrition status, the influence of normal aging changes on safe use of medications, potential side effects of medications, and a system for tracking and recording medication use.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will show knowledge change by demonstrating one of the following as a result of participating in this module:
| Session 1: |
Discussing at least one reason why they should respect and understand their medications, and verbalizing at least one question to ask a doctor or pharmacist. |
| Session 2: |
Identifying at least one way that our aging can affect how medications work, and at least one way that drug side-effects can cause malnutrition. |
| Session 3: |
Discussing at least one change in eating habits that would lower the risk of nutrient deficiencies due to medications interacting with food. |
| Session 4: |
Developing a personal plan (ways) to lower their nutritional risk. |
Participants will show behavior change by demonstrating one of the following as a result of participating in this module:
- How they have filled out their ‘Checkbook for Drug Safety' for their own health and nutritional needs.
- How they have accomplished their personal plan to lower their nutritional risk.
