The follow questions refer to the ELECTRONIC application process for County Extension Director and Extension Agent positions. To apply for a Program Associate, Program Assistant, or County Secretarial position, contact the County Extension Office directly.

Questions Concerning the Application Process

Where can I get an application?

For all positions posted on or after February 1, 2005, the application is available at http://jobs.ncsu.edu.

To whom do I address the cover letter?

You can address the cover letter to the County Extension Director, the District Extension Director, the Associate Director of Personnel, or the Employment Coordinator.

Can I send reference letters with my application?

Reference letters are acceptable to send with applications; however, you will be supplied with reference forms once your application is processed and the form will need to be completed in addition to any reference letters.

Do I have to send official transcripts with my applications?

Once you have an application confirmation number, you can forward your transcripts to the CALS Personnel Office. Transcripts are a crucial part of the recruiting process. Official transcripts are required to add any new employee to our payroll system after hire by NCCE.

Questions Concerning Recruiting Information

My GPA does not meet the minimum requirememt of 2.5, but I have been working in the field for a number of years. Can my experience replace the GPA requirement?

There is no work experience substitute for our minimum entry-level requirement of an undergraduate grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 in the major area of concentration, or the completion of a Master's degree. This item is non-negotiable at the request of NCCE Administration.

Would I meet the degree requirement if I have an Associate's Degree in the related field and a Bachelor's Degree in a non-related field?

You will meet the degree requirement as long as you have an undergraduate grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 in the major area of concentration in your Bachelor's degree. You will be required to submit official copies of both degree transcripts.

What is the pay range?

As of July 1, 2007, the current starting salary for an Extension Agent with a Bachelor's Degree is $31,775, with a Master's Degree is $36,925, with a Doctoral Degree $40,015. Consideration is given for advanced studies and work experience relevant for each position and added to the base salary.

Questions Concerning the Review Process

Do I have to use the three references listed on my application?

It is preferred that you use the references listed on page 2 of the application. However, we realize that some references will have scheduling conflicts and will not be able to complete the form. You can have an alternate complete the form or have the original reference send a letter.

Within what time frame should I expect to hear from a hiring official?

There is not a specific time line that is followed in filling positions. All positions are advertised for a one-month period. All of the current applicants' files are forwarded to the applicable District Extension Director's office for his/her review. If you are chosen for an interview, his/her assistant will contact you.
